THE RACE
IN GENERAL
It is recommended that fun and first time competitors
arrive as early as possible to familiarise themselves
with the layout of the event. The race is run
from the indoor pool at Snow Hill Swimming pool
at intervals from 10am till 11am. First you must
go to registration, located in the foyer of the
pool (through the main doors and to your left!)
open from 9:30am to register and collect your
race number and swim cap. Your race number must
be worn on your front for the run and is not to
be mutilated or re-sized in any way. It must be
pinned in all four corners, unless using a number
belt where the number must be pinned in the top
left and right hand corner.
It is good practice to write your name, blood
group and any allergies you may have on the back
of your race number in the unfortunate case of
an accident. Please note, for yours and other
competitors safety, mobile phones, MP3 or any
type of personal music system that restricts your
hearing is not permitted whilst competing in the
event.
Register at least
20 minutes before your start time. You cannot
change your start time!
Once registered,
lay out what you require for the run in the changeover
area at the rear of the pool (any position is
fine) such as your running shoes, T shirt, hat
or maybe gloves if the outside temperature is
low. Please note that you go outside for the changeover
area and will require another pair of shoes other
than your running shoes for the event. When leaving
equipment in the changeover area, please note
that we cannot be responsible for any items lost
or stolen, although we are allocating security
staff to specifically watch the area. Then make
your way to the changing room inside the pool
where you change ready for your swim start. Please
adhere to the hygiene signs in the changing rooms
with regard to where you can and cannot walk with
shoes on and shower before entering the pool area.
Make your way to the pool start for the race safety
briefing.
Please be at the
poolside 10 minutes before your start time (late
comers will regretfully be turned away).
SWIM
(Short 250M, Middle 500M, Long & Relay 750M)
The pool is 25 metres long, 10 lengths for the
Short (started at 15 second intervals), 20 lengths
for the Middle (started at 30 second intervals),
30 lengths for the Long & Relay (started at
45 second intervals). Tumble turns are not allowed.
Short Course: 2
lengths in an anti clockwise direction in each
5 lanes to total 10 lengths
Middle Course: 4 lengths in an anti clockwise
direction in each 5 lanes to total 20 lengths
Long & Relay Course: 6 lengths in an anti
clockwise direction in each 5 lanes to total 30
lengths
The swim course
is very straightforward and there are stewards
to help if you get confused, don’t worry
its easy! You swim the required amount of lengths
in each lane and then switch into the next lane
and so on. It is up to you to count your own lengths,
there will be spot checks throughout the course
of the race. A swim cap will be allocated to you
at the poolside which you must wear. If you have
your own swim cap you may use it. Please take
extra care at the poolside floor with wet feet,
as it will be slippery!
RUN
(Short 2.5K, Middle 5K, Long & Relay 7.5K)
When you finish your swim, change into your running
kit in the changeover area (make sure your torso
is covered for the run section). Use the TRI UK
carrier bag with your race number on that you
received at registration to put any items in from
the swim (such as goggles). The run is on tarmac
paths, 1 lap for the Short Course, 2 laps for
the Middle Course, 3 laps for the Long & Relay
Course. Follow the path, cones and arrows around
the course. It is up to you to count your laps
on the run, marshals will be taking numbers as
a check in the case of suspected insufficient
laps completed. There is a feed station on each
lap that will be serving Gatorade isotonic sports
drink and water. When you have finished the required
amount of laps for the run filter into the finish
area at the front of the main building. You must
show your race number to retrieve your bag from
the changeover area.
RELAY TEAM
At registration you will be given a wristband
that you have to relay to the finish line. After
completing the swim, the swimmer passes the wristband
to the runner inside the changeover area. The
runner completes the run and hands in the band
at the finish line. Relay awards are based on
all male and all female teams.
PRIZES &
RESULTS
There is a first place trophy for male and female
in all three distances. There is also a first
place trophy for all male and all female relay
teams. The prize giving will take place shortly
after the last competitor has finished in the
pool foyer. Results will be available to view
shortly after the event has finished and published
on the website at www.uktriathlon.co.uk on Monday
24th November.
